Koeman axed

Within 24 hours of the humiliating 5-1 defeat in Bilbao, Valencia bosses sacked Ronald Koeman yesterday evening. Former Valencia and Spain star Salvador González has been appointed as Koeman's replacement until the end of the season.

Koeman said last night that he is "proud to have taken the club to such an important title as the Copa del Rey (King's Cup)."

What he forgot to mention is that when he was appointed on November 2nd, Valencia were fourth in the league and just four points behind the leaders.

Now just 171 days later, they are 33 points behind the leaders and just two points from relegation in 16th position.

Koeman's 22 league games in charge, have resulted in Won:4 Draw:6 Lost:11 out of a possible 66 points, they have only gained 18 points.

There appears to be a lot of politics at the Valencia club. I find it hard to believe that Koeman made the desicion on his own, to axe the three Spanish internationals - David Abelda, Santiago Cañizares, and Miguel Ángel Angulo, (they have not played since December 18th).

Did the Valencia board not put pressure on him to reinstate the players as the results were going against them? Did the Valencia board not put pressure on him to reinstate the players when the club was taken to court by the players?

My own opinion, is the Valencia board must take their share of the blame, whose idea was it to sack Flores, when the club were in forth position. Whose idea was it to employ Koeman? Whose idea was it to give Koeman a contract that allows him to walk away with a reported severance pay of around ten million euros, that's right 10,000,000 euros.

Not a bad payday for doing a crap job.

Adiós Ronald.
