Zapatero wins a second term.

President Zapatero's socialist party won Sunday's general election, but will again need the support of minority coalition parties to govern Spain, despite gaining five seats. He needed 176 seats for an outright victory, but his party, the PSOE won 169 (+5) while Mariano Rajoy's right-wing PP party also gained five more seats than in 2004 (153 vs 148).

It is widely expected that Mariano Rajoy will resign as leader of the right-wing PP party.
